Tucker Gasperini, of Woodbury, a ninth grade student at Oak-Land Junior High School, Lake Elmo, participated in the annual Twin Cities Regional Science Fair held Feb. 27 - 28 at the University of Minnesota. Over 400 students, grades six to 12, participated in the regional science fair.

Gasperini received a blue ribbon for his project, L.E.D. Brightness, and was selected to present at the State Science and Engineering Fair, to be held March 29-31 in St. Paul.

Patrick Delaney of Afton advised Gasperini in his project. Delaney is a recent University of Minnesota graduate who started the Brite New Ideas Project, (www.brightnewideas.org) a nonprofit organization dedicated to renewable energy in the developing world. Delaney invented an L.E.D.-based solar lantern for use in rural communities of Nicaragua.
