The Washington County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 24 to approve an increase of the county’s "without pay" program that would allow county employees to use up to 120 hours of leave without pay, as long as they are in the public interest and represent cost savings.
Commissioners voted to allow the increase from the usual 40-hour allowance on the condition that it last only through 2009.
Last year, 73 employees were granted 1,301 hours under the program.
