Droves of donors at drive

Woodbury High School did its part to help the community at the annual Key Club blood drive on Jan. 29.

This year more than 120 students signed up to take part in the blood drive, Key Club vice president Michelle Lee said.

“Students like to help for the fact that they can help save a life,” she said. “It’s about giving back to others.”

Lee said the turnout this year was slightly more than last year’s crowd, and this could be the result of advertising more widely, or an increased desire to partcipate.

Junior Robert Zimmerman came out the blood drive for the first time this year.

“I like helping people,” he said.

Since this was Zimmerman’s first time donating, he went in with jitters. Despite donating quite a bit of blood, Zimmerman couldn’t provide the full amount needed because his blood clotted too quickly.

“It’s my first time and it didn’t work,” he said. “My arm is really sore but in the future I’ll keep on helping.”
