Viewpoint: Another reader’s views on abortion

Two recent letters defending Barack Obama's voting record regarding abortions left out some crucial points.

Two recent letters defending Barack Obama's voting record regarding abortions left out some crucial points.

When he was a state senator in Illinois, a hospital in the town of Oak Brook was doing what is called "live birth abortions."

This is a procedure where the woman receives a drug from the abortionist that causes and induced early delivery. When the living and wholly intact baby is delivered (born) he is put on a table and left to die, — no comfort, no care and never placed in his mother's arms.

Three times Obama voted to keep this procedure legal. He was the only Illinois senator to vote against a bill that would end this practice.

He later claimed that he would have voted for the bill if it had included some Roe v. Wade neutral language. However, when the bill was changed to include this language (to allow other abortions) he still voted against the bill.

Make no mistake, Barack Obama is a gifted speaker and uses the usual phrases about "right to privacy, family planning, sex education, states can make the decision etc." — but the bottom line is he is apparently very comfortable and accepting of abortions.

He voted to block a bill that would have required an abortionist to notify at least one parent before performing an abortion on a minor girl from another state.

He has made it clear that if he has the opportunity to appoint a Supreme Court justice, it will be someone who shares his views on abortion.

During his campaign he referenced his own two daughters when talking about abortion and stated, "If they made a mistake, I don't want to punish them with a baby."

As a previous writer pointed out, Obama supports abortion at every stage of pregnancy, even partial birth abortion. In those situations a baby's little head is crushed, even though he could have survived outside the womb.

Acceptance of abortion at any level creates a climate that sends a message that some children are disposable.

Recently, a teenage girl was found guilty of murdering her newborn daughter and faces a jail term.

How ironic that if she had sought an abortion a month before, the child's death would have been legal. Instead of being stabbed to death by her mother, her life could have ended at an abortion clinic.

For the writer who states she is “very tired of hearing abut abortions,” let me say that to many of us this is not a political issue, it is matter of right and very wrong.

It was Hubert Humphrey who once talked about judging a country on how the people in the dawn of life and the sunset of life were treated.

Truly, the aborted children who were never given a chance to live, were in the dawn of life.

We will go on fighting for those who cannot speak for themselves until someone can show us how in any faith or religion abortion can be considered part of God's plan.
