Letter: Tired of the name-calling

As I said previously, I'm really tired of the "abortion debate." But I'm also tired of name-calling, which Mr. St. Martin engages in (again) when he refers to Ms. Denn as "one of Woodbury’s most vocal abortion advocates" (Viewpoint, Dec. 3).

As I said previously, I'm really tired of the "abortion debate." But I'm also tired of name-calling, which Mr. St. Martin engages in (again) when he refers to Ms. Denn as "one of Woodbury’s most vocal abortion advocates" (Viewpoint, Dec. 3).

"Pro-life" is such a warm fuzzy term (which for some reason doesn't usually translate to the same concern over the lives of innocent Iraqi victims, or of those on death row, for example).

However, it's not as though "pro-choice" is the opposite, or is synonymous with "pro-abortion," "anti-life" or "monster."

Nor do those who are pro-choice "advocate for abortion" — only the right to obtain one — which I'm sure Mr. St. Martin, with his hair-splitting ways, realizes is not the same.

I'm acquainted with Ms. Denn and she loves life and babies, as much as anyone I know. She also, because of her professional experience, is familiar with situations that most of us rarely, if ever, hear about.

She's earned the right to her opinion. And I know that she, as well as the rest of those who are pro-choice, would prefer for there to be no more need for abortions.

However, we disagree on how to move toward that goal, and believe in being realistic about the world we live in.
