Mary Dinesen, a resident of Woodbury, and Leigh Frichol, who resides in Afton, will perform two versions of the “Magnificat” by composers Johann Sebastian Bach and John Rutter with the St. Catherine Choral Society.

The concert will be held Sunday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. at Holy Spirit Church, 512 S. Albert Street, St. Paul.

Music department chair Patricia Cahalan Connors will conduct the group that will be accompanied by the Choral Society Orchestra.

Mary Dinesen is a longtime member and director of the adult choir at Grace of God Lutheran Church in Woodbury.

Leigh Frichol is a junior at St. Kate's and has sung with Bel Canto Voices/Project Opera for the Minnesota Opera in high school.

Featured soloists include St. Kate’s music instructor Kristie Tigges, Angela Keeton, Andrew Barrett and Seth Keeton.

The Magnificat, or “Song of Mary,” is a canticle or hymn taken directly from the Bible.

The text of the Magnificat is drawn from the Gospel of Luke (Luke 1:46–55), Mary’s song of praise in response to the Angel’s announcement of the impending birth of Jesus. Rutter's composition includes additional carols sung in English.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children (18 and under) or $30 per family.
