Weichert, Realtors - Advantage sponsors food drive

Broker Mark LaQua and Realtor Beth LaQua, owners of Weichert, Realtors - Advantage, have announced that the Woodbury firm is sponsoring an area community food drive in cooperation with Second Harvest Heartland.

Donations will be accepted at the Stonemill Farms Community Center, located at 11390 Waterview Way in Woodbury, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.

People can either leave their donations at participating companies or the Stonemill Farms Community Center.

“We are hoping that area companies will post flyers in their break rooms or place them out for the public to see, so that we can help make this food drive an unprecedented success,” said Mark LaQua.

Second Harvest Heartland is the Upper Midwest's largest hunger-relief organization with a mission of ending hunger through community partnerships. As such, it forms the cornerstone of organizations working together to alleviate hunger in a 59 county service area.

This year, Second Harvest Heartland will deliver more than 41 million pounds of food to 1,000-plus nonprofit member agencies and programs, including food shelves, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior community centers and children's after school programs.

“As an office we decided to take a proactive approach to this great need for our local food shelves to be restocked,” LaQua said.

“The idea has turned into a much bigger event than even we could have projected with Nabisco, Kraft and Ricoh all pledging to participate, along with other local companies, such as Prom Event Center, Bell Mortgage, the Woodbury Bulletin, Kowalski’s Markets, Key Title and Woodbury Financial.”
