Afton’s comprehensive plan will be sent out for comment within days.
The city planner, Charles Marohn, told the Afton City Council at its Oct. 21 meeting that the draft comprehensive plan would still be worked upon by the planning commission, but the time had come to submit it to neighboring communities.
The comp plan process is already six months behind schedule and to meet a new deadline set by the Metropolitan Council, the plan needs to be issued by Nov. 1 to meet the requirement for a six-month review period by surrounding communities.
“During the six-month review period, it’s the intent of the planning commission to continue to review and refine the document,” said Marohn.
“There can be dramatic changes from this point forward; [however] at the planning commission level we don’t want to distribute a document that we anticipate wholesale changes to.”
He acknowledged that there might be some shifts in thinking depending on the outcome of the Nov. 4 election, which could have an impact on sections of the plan.
