Young actors needed for musical 'Oliver!'

Woodbury High School Theatre will soon begin auditions of elementary students to perform in the Nov. 13 - 16, 20 - 22 presentation of “Oliver!”
Directors Karen and Jon Seashore are looking for a boy to play the major role of Oliver and boys and girls to play orphans and townschildren.
Basic requirements for the role are: that the child must attend a District 833 elementary school in Woodbury or Newport, must be in grades two to six and be shorter than five feet, should be expressive and be able to match song pitch and tempo, and at least one parent per family must volunteer to help supervise elementary children during some rehearsals and performances.
Auditions for elementary students will be held in the Woodbury High School theater, 2665 Woodlane Drive, on Friday Sept. 19 from 3:30 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 21 from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
Children will audition in groups of 10 or fewer in 35-minute time slots. Parents should sign children up to audition during one 35-minute time slot. The audition sign-up sheet will be available at the Woodbury High School main office welcome desk located at the front of the school, north side, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 17 - 19.
Audition forms and sheet music may be picked up when signing up for an audition time. Parents should have the audition form completed and ready to hand in when their child auditions.
At auditions, all children should be prepared to sing the sheet music segment of the song “Food, Glorious Food.”
Boys who want to audition for the role of “Oliver” should also be prepared to sing the sheet music segment of the song “Where Is Love?”
Audition and casting information is available on the StarPlayers Musical Theatre website www.starplayerstheatre.com. Callbacks will be held only for boys who are being considered for the role of Oliver and will be posted on the website Sunday Sept. 21 by 6 p.m. Callback auditions will be held Monday Sept. 22 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The final cast list will be posted on the website Tuesday Sept. 23.
Rehearsals for elementary students will be held, generally, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., two to three days per week. It is possible rehearsals may also be held a couple of Saturdays and evenings. Children will not rehearse every day of the week (Monday through Friday) until the final two weeks preceding the show.
