Letter: Incumbent’s legislative record is clear

Notwithstanding the Aug. 27 Viewpoint article [by Joseph E. Ward of Woodbury], the current District 56A Minnesota House representative [Julie Bunn, DFL-Lake Elmo] has a clear record of supporting and implementing increased taxes across the board, from business to personal.

For example, she opposed an amendment to SF2096 that would have deleted the bill’s increase on fishing licenses for non-resident anglers — thus obviously taking a slap at the business of tourism and resort owners in Minnesota.

Also, she opposed an amendment to SF2096 that would have deleted the bill’s proposal to create new fees up to $1,000 for holding a fishing contest!

She also opposed an amendment to HF2227 that would have deleted the bill’s proposed 20 percent increase in the fee charged for bureaucratic review of floor expansion plans in grocery stores.

And the list goes on.

This letter writer recalls a town hall meeting in Woodbury earlier in the summer at which the 56A representative, with her colleagues from our Senate District 56, enthusiastically talked about taxing food and clothing, et. al., to get the revenue flow they wanted for all of their programs.

The coming election offers very clear choices among the candidates.

The taxer, we know. The non-taxer is the one many of us overburdened-by-taxes citizens would like to see elected.
