Scouts looking for new members

Boy Scout packs in Woodbury have started holding new member open houses to invite boys in grades 1 - 5 to join Cub Scouts.

Boy Scout packs in Woodbury have started holding new member open houses to invite boys in grades 1 - 5 to join Cub Scouts. Boys and an adult are invited to attend the location of their choice to learn more about Cub Scouting and will also have the opportunity to sign up while attending an open house.

Events will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, 6:15 p.m. at Gordon Bailey Elementary; Monday, Sept. 15, 7 to 9 p.m. at Woodbury Lutheran Church for the Royal Oaks Elementary-associated meeting; Tuesday, Sept. 16, 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. at Red Rock Elementary; Wednesday, Sept. 17, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Liberty Ridge Elementary; Thursday, Sept. 18, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Saint Ambrose of Woodbury; Thursday, Sept. 18, 6: 30 p.m. at New Life Academy for the newly forming New Life Academy-associated pack; and Thursday, Sept. 18, 6:45 to 8 p.m. at Valley Crossing Community School.

Cub Scouts explore a variety of new interests and activities with other boys their age, meet weekly or bi-weekly in small groups of boys the same age (dens) and monthly with the boys of all age groups (pack) to share experiences, activities and recognition. Boys in first through fifth grade can start at any level without any previous scouting experience.

According to information provided by representatives of the organization, participation helps Cubs develop a sense of confidence, teamwork, responsibility and a spirit of service, strengthens family and community relationships, builds friendships and identifies areas of interest.

Families who are unable to attend a sign-up night or have questions should call the Northern Star Council BSA service center at (763) 231-7201. Additional information on scouting may be found at www.joincubs.org.
