County offers nature programs

Washington County Parks will host free “Campfire” programs Saturday, Aug. 30 in the campground amphitheaters at Lake Elmo Park Reserve and St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park.

Washington County Parks will host free “Campfire” programs Saturday, Aug. 30 in the campground amphitheaters at Lake Elmo Park Reserve and St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park. A $5 vehicle fee will be charged at the entrance to the parks for any vehicles not displaying a current park pass.

Lake Elmo Park Reserve, 1515 Keats Avenue North, Lake Elmo, will host a naturalist from the Como Zoo presenting the campfire program Tropical Rainforest. Attendees will experience the tropical rainforest without leaving Minnesota as they are introduced to a variety of organisms that call the rainforest home, and learn “just how dependent we are on these important ecosystems.” The program will be presented at 7:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. Each show is limited to 50 people.

The park is located at the intersection of County Road 19 and County Road 10, one mile north of Interstate 94. Call (651) 430-8370 for additional information.

At St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, 7:15 p.m., Remarkable Reptiles will present “Snakes and Lizards.” The program will offer park visitors a chance to learn about some of the animals they might stumble across within the park and some they might not.

St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park is located along the St. Croix River on County Road 21, between County Road 76 and County Road 78 in Denmark Township. Call (651) 430-8240 or visit www.co.washington.mn.us for additional information.
