District 833 schools host welcome events

South Washington County School District 833 schools are preparing for the opening of the 2008-09 school year. Parents and families are welcome to visit their schools for introductions to staff and to the buildings if the students are new.

The following list highlights special programs and elementary and secondary school open houses. Contact your school with any questions.

• The NEXT STEP program Open House will be held Monday, Aug. 25 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the new program location in leased space at 7155 80th Street in Cottage Grove. The NEXT STEP program teaches life skills to youth with disabilities.

• The Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) program will host Open House Thursday, Sept. 4 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at all ECSE sites: Woodbury Elementary School, the District Program Center and Bailey Elementary School.

Armstrong Open House – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Bailey Back-to-School Open House – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Cottage Grove Open House – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Crestview Open House – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.; first day of school for grades 1 - 6 is Tuesday, Sept. 2; and first day of school for kindergarten is Thursday, Sept. 4.

Grey Cloud Open House – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Hillside Open House – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for grades 1 - 6; kindergartens will have only a meeting at 4 p.m.

Liberty Ridge Open House – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Middleton Back-to-School Breakfast and Open House – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 8 to 10 a.m.; class lists will be posted Tuesday, Aug. 26. at 4 p.m. in the front and back of the building.

Newport Open House – Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 6 to 7 p.m.; Kindergarten Roundup will be held from 5 to 6 p.m.

Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion Open House (housed in the Crestview Elementary School building) – Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.; first day of school for grades 1 - 4 is Tuesday, Sept. 2; first day of school for kindergarten is Thursday, Sept. 4.

Pine Hill Back-to-School Night – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Pullman Open House – Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Red Rock Back to School Night – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.: Parents and students are invited to “come and meet your teacher and sign up for activities.”

Royal Oaks Open House – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Woodbury Elementary Back-to-School Night – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Alternative Learning Center (ALC) Open House and Orientation – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Cottage Grove Junior High Open House – Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Sixth grade “Welcome BBQ” – Thursday, Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m.; Seventh grade Welcome Dance Friday, Sept. 12.

Lake Junior High Student Orientation – Monday, Aug. 25; sixth grade from 9 to 11 a.m.; seventh through ninth grades from 2:30 to 5 p.m.; pictures will be taken during this time.

Woodbury High School Orientation for 10th grade and new students – Thursday, Aug. 21 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for former Woodbury Junior High students, and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. for former Lake Junior High students; New Parent Orientation – Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.; Open House – Thursday, Sept. 4 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
