A request from the Afton Charter Commission to use the city council’s bulk mailing permit to post a informational newsletter has been denied.
At their July 15 meeting, city council members voted 3-1 against allowing use of the permit, which would have entitled the charter commission to mail the newsletter at a cost of $0.15 per copy.
The majority felt it was inappropriate to allow use of the permit for a mailing which was not being put out by the city directly.
Council member Nick Mucciacciaro, who voted in favor of allowing use of the permit, offered use of his personal mailing permit to the commission instead.
