United Educators Credit Union (UECU) staff collectively raised nearly $3,000 this year for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. This was an increase of 13 percent over last year’s tally.

A team of 16 credit union employees participated in the 2008 Woodbury Relay For Life, held June 20-21 at Ojibway Park.

“Taking part in Relay For Life is an amazing experience for me,” said Robyn Musto, UECU staff accountant and captain of the UECU Relay team. “It puts your life into perspective quickly when you see a child wearing a cancer survivor T-shirt.”

To raise money for the event, UECU held several bake sales at the credit union’s Woodbury office at 6789 Upper Afton Road. All staff members had the opportunity to wear jeans for a day in exchange for a $5 donation to the Relay.

UECU also donated credit union bags containing a pen, magnet and a T-shirt to everyone who participated in the Woodbury Relay For Life event.

Relay For Life is an overnight event designed to bring together those who have been affected by cancer in the community. During the event, teams gather at schools, fairgrounds or parks to camp and take turns walking or running laps. All funds raised for this event benefit the American Cancer Society.

UECU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative, with offices in Woodbury, Eden Prairie and Columbia Heights.
