Improvements to Valley Creek Road between Woodcrest Drive and Settlers Ridge Parkway in the eastern area of Woodbury have been postponed indefinitely.
Reconstruction of this segment of Valley Creek Road to a four-lane section had been tentatively scheduled for 2009. However, the existing traffic volumes, coupled with environmental concerns, have caused the city to reconsider.
“The city has re-examined the need for the project,” said Marc Briese, transportation engineer. “We found that the traffic volumes do not currently warrant expanding to four lanes, and they may not for some time.”
In addition, design of the project has been delayed by several issues, including the city’s desire to minimize the impacts to the high quality forest north of Valley Creek Road and to the property owners adjacent to the roadway.
The city will continue to monitor the traffic volumes and safety performance of this section of Valley Creek Road.
