A liquor license has been granted to the man who plans to sign the deeds on Selma’s Ice Cream Parlour in Afton.

Chet Kurtz, the owner of two restaurants in the Twin Cities, was awarded the license in his absence at a special city council meeting on June 9.

Kurtz’s restaurants typically sell toasted panino wrap sandwiches, and Afton Mayor Julia Welter, who has met with Kurtz, says she understand he hopes to work the DNR to resolve previous concerns with regard to the location of the former Selma’s Ice Cream Parlour within the flood plain.

At a previous city council meeting, a liquor license agent appearing on behalf of Kurtz indicated he hoped to open in mid-June.

Kurtz did not respond to telephone messages left for him.
