Students and staff from Valley Crossing Community School in Woodbury held a pancake breakfast in April and raised over $2,500 for children attending school at St. Margaret’s Academy in Tanzania, East Africa.
St. Margaret’s Academy serves AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children in Tanzania. The funds raised will pay for tuition, books, transportation, uniforms and school meals for children at St. Margaret’s Academy.
The students from both schools have formed a special relationship; writing to each other, learning about each other’s cultures, even exchanging teachers over the past few years.
The breakfast was held at Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill, 10150 Hudson Road, Woodbury.
The Valley Crossing kindergarten through sixth grade students worked as staff serving meals, greeting customers, cleaning up and even made special placemats for the event.
Second-grader Lauren Shipman worked as a server and said, “I had a great time and I’m looking forward to doing it again next year!”
