Season finale for 3M Club Symphony

The 3M Club Symphony Orchestra will perform its last concert of the season on Sunday, June 1 at 3 p.m. The performance will take place at Woodbury Lutheran Church, 7380 Afton Road, Woodbury.

Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults and $8 for ages 18 and under.

Returning alumni will join the orchestra to help celebrate its 50th year.

Dr. William LaRue Jones, who conducted the orchestra from 1975 to 1987, will return to conduct “Finlandia” by Jean Sibelius.

Jones is currently music director/conductor of the Oshkosh (Wis.) Symphony Orchestra, director of orchestral studies and graduate conducting at the University of Iowa and the artistic director of the Conductors Workshop of America.

Other pieces scheduled to be performed by the 3M Club Symphony Orchestra include “Also Sprach Zarathustra” by Richard Strauss, “Medley from Camelot” by Frederick Loewe and Alan Lerner, and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9.” at the conclusion of the concert.

The 3M Symphony, directed by Elizabeth Prielozny Barnes, is composed primarily of 3M employees, retirees, 3M spouses and family.

The orchestra is the resident orchestra at Maplewood Community Center and performs at other various locations throughout the Twin Cities area.
