Letter: Legion thanks fundraising donors

On behalf of the Woodbury American Legion membership, I would like to thank those businesses and individuals who so generously contributed to our Poppy Days fundraising this year.

On behalf of the Woodbury American Legion membership, I would like to thank those businesses and individuals who so generously contributed to our Poppy Days fundraising this year. In spite of all the negative economic conditions, contributions this year far exceeded previous years.

The red poppy has been associated with veterans of wars ever since the poem “In Flanders Fields” was written by Lt. Col. John McCrae following World War I. The red poppy is distributed as a fundraising figure by both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations.

The American Legion’s mission is to support veterans, their families and the communities in which they reside. Woodbury Post 501 has no overhead expense, thus virtually all of our revenue goes directly toward accomplishing that mission.

Thanks to Woodbury and its surrounding communities, the Woodbury American Legion will continue to serve veterans well.
