Name calling — that is the level of debate in Mr.Tatreau's letter ("Back to Europe and its taxes," March 19) — name calling and distorted history.
No, Mr. Tatreau, we did not fight the War of Independence over taxes; we fought over taxation without representation, among many other issues, including warrantless searches.
We do, in fact, have elected representatives in this nation, and if Mr. Tatreau objects to their policies, he has the right and the obligation to support opposing candidates and policies.
As for Mr. Tatreau's dark insinuations regarding Ms. Turnbull's "Tory-sounding name and her loyalties," I'm sure Ms. Turnbull can speak for herself.
The statement, however, only serves to render Tatreau's arguments ridiculous.
