The State Patrol and Washington County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to investigate the cause of a fatal accident involving a pedestrian at interstates 94 and 694 in Woodbury early Sunday morning.

Woodbury Police, who are assisting in the investigation, confirmed Friday that individuals have been interviewed in the investigation.

According to State Patrol reports, the accident was reported at 1:22 a.m. Sunday when a 19-year-old male walking on the left shoulder of westbound interstate 94 was struck by two vehicles. The impact of the first vehicle, a 2002 GMC Denali, sent the pedestrian into the westbound lane where he was then struck by a second vehicle, a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder.

The victim, identified as Mario D. Evans, of Hopkins, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still investigating as to why Evans was walking along the interstate.

The driver of the Pathfinder was not injured.

The first vehicle that struck Evans left the scene.

Woodbury Department of Public Safety also responded to the accident. Oakdale Police assisted with the scene.
