East Ridge forward Ian Penvose’s second-period power-play goal proved the game-winner last Thursday in a 2-1 victory over Eastview at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.
Penvose put home the game-winner with 15 seconds left in the second period on an assist from Derek Hammer.
The Raptors (5-5-1, 2-2-1 SEC) maintained the lead with a dominant third period where they outshot the Lightning 10-3.
East Ridge finished with 42 shots and went 1-for-3 on the play. Eastview (4-5, 2-3 SSC) had 23 shots for the game and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
Nick Abbott gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead 13 minutes, 20 seconds into the game with a power-play goal on an assist from Jake McGlocklin.
Jack Greeley tied it up just 20 seconds later off an assist from Ryan McDonough and Jacob Nickoloff for the Raptors.
East Ridge outshot Eastview 15-7 in the first period. Tyler Guck made 22 saves on 23 shots for the victory in net for the Raptors.
Grabbing any kind of lead against 15th-ranked Holy Family Saturday proved difficult for East Ridge Saturday in a 7-2 loss in Victoria.
The Fire took a 1-0 lead in the first period, added two more goals in the second and finished with four in the third period. Holy Family (5-3, 1-0 WCC) outshot the Raptors 28-24 for the game and went 3-for-4 on the power play.
John Peterson scored two goals and had two assists while Shane Gersich had a goal and three assists. Garrett Riebling and Ryan Swanson had two assists each. Jake Dickison, Will Garin and Dylan Woolf added goals for the Fire.
Greeley and Penvose scored for East Ridge. Jacob Nickoloff, Jack Dwyer and Ryan McDonough had assists.
The Raptors got to within one goal twice in the game. Greeley cut the lead to 2-1 in the second period but Joey Marooney netted a power-play goal at the 12:23 mark.
Penvose’s goal 26 seconds into the third period made it a one-goal game again, but Holy Family scored the game’s next four goals, including a goal from Garin 21 seconds after Penvose’s tally.
East Ridge faces Roseville Jan. 3 in Roseville.
