The East Ridge Raptors volleyball team concluded a busy week containing a total of six matches with a third-place finish at the Cretin-Derham Hall Invitational Saturday.
Prior to the tournament, the Raptors were defeated in a non-conference contest by the Eagan Wildcats 3-1 at Eagan on Tuesday. They lost the match with scores of 15-25, 25-19, 10-25 and 18-25.
East Ridge senior Margaret Eggert led the Raptors with 14 kills. Fellow senior Tess Kelzenberg scored a team-high two aces during the match, and junior Maddie Christenson led the team with 17 digs. Sophomore Savannah Lipps was right behind Christenson with 15 digs.
On Thursday, the Raptors topped conference rival Forest Lake at home by a margin of 3-1. Scores for the match were 23-25, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-19. The win improved their conference record to 3-1.
The Raptors combined for seven aces on the evening in a great offensive effort by the home team.
Eggert led the team with 15 kills, and sophomore Claire Wittman had 11. Christenson was atop the ace category with 3, and Wittman was right behind her with 2. Junior Makayla Sauro had the most digs with 14. Lipps and Christenson followed her effort with 12 each.
The Raptors ended their week at Cretin-Derham Hall on Saturday, finishing the day with a 3-1 record, which was good for a third-place showing.
East Ridge began the day by defeating Hudson and St. Agnes by a 2-0 margin. They lost a tough match to Lakeville South 2-1, but they were able to defeat St. Peter in the third-place match 2-0.
Next up for the Raptors is a trip to Cottage Grove on Tuesday night as they challenge Park High School in a Suburban East Conference match up at 7 p.m.
