East Ridge girls swimming & diving: Raptors beat Bears in regular-season finale

The East Ridge girls swimming and diving team blew Suburban East Conference foe White Bear Lake out of the water on Tuesday, Oct. 25, in White Bear Lake.

The East Ridge girls swimming and diving team blew Suburban East Conference foe White Bear Lake out of the water on Tuesday, Oct. 25, in White Bear Lake.

The Raptors won the meet 95-86, but mathematically clinched the contest with two events remaining.

The last event of the evening – the 400-yard freestyle relay – featured East Ridge’s four seniors (Melanie Rabino,Rachel Treadway, Megan Plourde and Anna Moynihan) swimming together in the last regular-season event of 2011. The Raptors won the event with a time of 3 minutes, 56.34 seconds, edging White Bear’s top relay, which had a 4:00.18 time.

In all, East Ridge won eight of the meet’s 12 events.

The Raptors flexed their muscles in the diving competition, going 1-2-3 in the event. Defending Class AA state champion Jenna Karrow won the meet. The junior scored a 294.00 for the night. Karrow’s teammates Erin Brino (126.20) and Olivia Burleigh (124.65) finished second and third, respectively.

Including the 400 free relay, the Raptors won three of the meet’s four relays. East Ridge also won the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Individually, Treadway won two events – the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley. The senior had a time of 1:02.01 in the fly to top teammate Maddy Peters’ 1:04.03 second-place time. IN the 200 IM she won with a time of 2:18.71, ahead of teammate Kayla Maata, who took second place with a 2:29.36 time. Peters also won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.15 and Rabino took first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.05.

Up next for the East Ridge swim and dive team are the JV Conference Championships, which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Following the JV meet, East Ridge will compete in the Section 3AA championship on Nov. 9 and 11, at Richfield Middle School with diving being held at Cottage Grove Middle School on Nov. 10.
