East Ridge volleyball: Raptors win two conference contests

The East Ridge volleyball team won its first Suburban East Conference matches of 2011 last week, taking down Forest Lake and White Bear Lake to improve to 2-2 in the SEC and 5-8 overall.
East Ridge first beat White Bear Lake 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-17) on Tuesday, Sept. 20, in White Bear Lake and followed up the win with a 3-0 sweep of Forest Lake (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) on Thursday, Sept. 22, in Forest Lake.
In the win over the Bears (1-10; 0-4 SEC) senior Brandi Knupp led the way, coming up with a team-best 16 digs, along with nine kills, three assist blocks and one solo block, while going 10-for-10 on serves.
Additionally, senior Maggie Remke had nine kills and two digs, junior Tess Kelzenberg scored 28 set assists, three kills and three aces, junior Madeline Sullivan had 13 digs and senior Cayla Kissner had nine digs and three kills.
Against Forest Lake, Kelzenberg was a passing machine, racking up a team-best 38 assists to go along with eight digs and a kill, while going 13-for-13 on serves. Junior Margaret Eggert led the offense with a team-high 18 kills to go along with 11 digs. Sullivan led the defense, racking up a team-best 25 digs. Additionally, Knupp had 13 digs, Remke had seven kills, three digs, three aces and a block and Kissner had eight digs, four kills and two aces.
East Ridge took on Park on Tuesday, Sept. 27, in search of its third-straight conference win after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Raptors play host to non-conference foe Eagan, ranked eighth in Class AAA, on Thursday, Sept. 29, before competing in a Cretin-Derham Hall tournament on Saturday, Oct. 1.
