Girls hockey: Park trumps East Ridge 6-1

The Park girls hockey team beat intra-district and Suburban East Conference foe East Ridge as the two teams faced off on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

The Park girls hockey team beat intra-district and Suburban East Conference foe East Ridge as the two teams faced off on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

Park (5-4-1; 3-3-1 SEC) changed a 2-1 lead into a 6-1 win with a four-goal third period.

It was the second straight conference win for Park. The Wolfpack beat Hastings 4-2 this past Saturday.

For East Ridge (1-10; 0-7-0), it was the Raptors’ ninth straight loss, and third straight by a 6-1 score.

In the game, in which the Wolfpack out shot the Raptors 49-26, East Ridge took a 1-0 lead 8:48 into the first period. But, Park evened the score 1-1 less than two minutes later, then took a 2-1 lead 1:53 into the second period — one it would not relinquish.

Six different players scored for the Wolfpack in the game. Freshman Anna Keys and sophomore Mary Turitto each tallied a goal and an assist and junior Caitlin Quinn, sophomore Alicia Wagenman, senior Mallory Ryan and junior Callie McCarthy each scored goals. Senior Taylor Villari added two assists and Katrina Radke, Allie Thalhuber and Ashley Moore had one assist. Goalie Allie Morse saved 25 of 26 shots for the win.

Junior Stephanie Mohr had the lone goal for East Ridge on an assist by Krista Frankenberg. Paige Press made 43 saves in the loss.

Next, Park plays host to Spring Lake Park on Thursday, Dec. 23, in Cottage Grove.

East Ridge takes part in the Tartan holiday tournament, beginning Tuesday, Dec. 28, in Oakdale.
