Q&A with Leah Robinette

East Ridge sophomore gymnast talks nationals, Perpetual Motion and Nastia Liukin.

By: Patrick Johnson, Staff Writer, South Washington County Bulletin

What’s your favorite sports memory?

At our first meet at East Ridge, I stuck a new vault that I had been working on for a long time. I think the expression on my face explained it all.

Do you have one individual performance at a meet that sticks out as being a great one?

Last year when competing at Nationals in Okalahoma.  My goal was to come home with at least one medal, which I did on bars.

Do you have one individual performance at a meet that sticks out as being a bad one?

I fell off the beam four times during my first meet competing gymnastics.  I even fell off when trying to get on!

How did you end up competing in gymnastics?

When I was little, I was always jumping around and hanging on things.  My mom thought it would be a good fit — she was right.

Do you have any pre-meet rituals?

Our team at East Ridge does a cheer before every meet.  It always gets me pumped up and ready to compete.

Do you have a nickname?

I don’t really have a nickname but every once in awhile I hear someone yell out “ Le Le “  during a meet. Why?  I have no idea!

What do you like to do out of the gym?

Hang out with friends. I also coach gymnastics.

Who’s your favorite athlete?

Nastia Liukin. She came to our gym once and she is an inspiring Olympic gymnast.

What’s your favorite sports team? (besides your own)

Perpetual Motion, my former gymnastics team.  I spent 10 years training and competing with them and have a lot of great memories.

What are your future goals?

To go on to college and compete in gymnastics.

What advice do you have for young gymnasts?

Always listen to your coaches, they know what they are talking about!  Also, never give up because anything is possible!
