Take two: Entries sought for second annual film festival
Sequels can be dicey propositions, but not when it's Cottage Grove's very own film festival.
The Cottage Grove Arts Commission is accepting submissions for the second annual Films in 5 Festival, which returns Oct. 1 to the Park High School auditorium.
The competition is open to the public, who are invited to enter original films, videos or cartoons five minutes or less in length. All genres and formats are welcome, so long as they observe the bounds of good taste. Entry fee is $5.
Prizes will be awarded for the top three films. First prize is a trophy and a $100 gift card to a Cottage Grove business. Second prize is a $50 gift card and third prize is a $25 gift card.
Whether they win or not, entering their work in the festival provides aspirants the kind of feedback that's not available on sites like YouTube, commission vice chair Justin Atkinson said.
"There is no greater gift to a filmmaker than to be able to show their film to a live audience, to see and hear their reaction," said Atkinson, a professional videographer who is a government producer at the South Washington County Telecommunications Commission.
The entries will be judged by Atkinson and other Telecommunications employees.
A special trophy will be awarded to the audience favorite.
Entry forms can be found on the Cottage Grove website, cottage-grove.org. Click on the Boards and Commissions tab and then click on the Arts Commission tab.
