Woodbury's Fenton to step down from GOP post
Woodbury resident Kelly Fenton announced Monday that she will step down from her post as second-in-command with the Republican Party of Minnesota in order to focus on her legislative campaign.
"I am proud that I served our party during a time of great challenges and was able to provide the leadership to successfully deal with a financial crisis and develop a framework which would enable our party to continue moving forward," Fenton, the state GOP party's deputy chairwoman, said in a news release.
She will resign her post with the party effective Jan. 1, the release states.
Fenton announced in November that she will seek the GOP endorsement to run in House District 53B. The seat opened up for a new Republican contender after Rep. Andrea Kieffer, R-Woodbury, announced she will not seek re-election in 2014.
“I look forward to running for House District 53B and will continue working in a variety of ways to assist with the success and growth of our party," Fenton said.
