Woodbury volleyball: Zephyrs end Royals’ season in section tournament

The Woodbury volleyball team’s season came to a close on Oct. 22, with a 3-1 loss to Mahtomedi in the opening round of the Section 4AAA tournament. Ninth-seeded Mahtomedi edged eighth-seeded Woodbury 20-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-12 in the match. Sophomore Katie Schultze led the Royals’ offense in the match with a team-high seven kills and two aces. Also, senior Erin Swansson had a big all-around game with six kills and two aces to go along with 13 digs. In addition, junior Lauren Aeilts added six kills and an ace and freshman Klein Johnson had 24 assists. Defensively, junior Megan Hamilton had a team-high 19 digs and junior Mikaila Ness had 17 digs to go along with five kills and an ace. Woodbury finished 10-14 overall. Mahtomedi (10-19) went on to lose 3-0 to top-seeded North St. Paul (20-7) in the second round.

Woodbury must now say good-bye to five seniors from its roster – Swansson, Makensie Kincade, Monica Johnson, Emily Larson and Carley Engfer.
