Woodbury (4-3; 1-1 SEC) swept Park 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-23) on Thursday in Woodbury, two days after falling 3-1 (19-25, 17-25, 25-21, 21-25) at Forest Lake.

“Forest Lake certainly challenged us with their offense in the middle,” Woodbury first-year head coach Tara Schubring said. “Unfortunately we could not pull off a win, but we came back to the drawing board and our goal has been to really focus on pressure serving and passing. Against Park on Thursday we implemented our pressured serves and more consistent passes which led us to our first conference win of the season.”

In the matches, senior Erin Swansson led the way with a total of 17 digs, eight service aces and 10 kills. Also, junior Mikhaila Ness had 14 digs, eight aces and 10 kills. Woodbury freshman setter Klein Johnson led the team with 32 set assists and sophomore Taylor Nelson had 13 digs with (including nine against Forest Lake).

“The coaches have been very impressed with the level of intensity our team has possessed along the way this season,” Schubring said. “Freshman Klein Johnson has been a very consistent player in the setting position along with senior Erin Swansson in passing.”

Woodbury was at Hastings on Tuesday after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Royals are back at home on Thursday against Roseville.

“Our goal is to continue to focus on passing and aggressive serves,” Schubring said.
