A thrilling final week of the regular season couldn’t have ended better for the Royals.

Woodbury topped its crosstown rival East Ridge on Thursday, May 15, to close out the regular season. The win followed wins earlier in the week against Forest Lake and White Bear Lake.

The Royals topped East Ridge 15-7 at home, with freshman pitcher Ashley Mickschl earning the complete-game win that completed her regular season record at 8-2.

Senior second baseman Jordan Yourczek led the Woodbury offensive attack with six RBI and three hits. Madi Yochum, a junior infielder, and freshman catcher Shannon Motzko each had two hits against East Ridge.

The week started off on May 12 with a high-drama road game against Forest lake. Down 12-10 in the seventh inning, Motzko tied the game with a two-run single.

Woodbury put two more runners aboard in time for more heroics later in the inning. That was when sophomore third baseman Alexis Jacobs crushed her fifth hit of the night – a three-run, game-winning home run. Mickschl earned the win against Forest Lake.

Mickschl, Yochum, Yourczek and Tori Erickson all had multi-hit performances in the Forest Lake game.

On Wednesday, May 21, the Royals dominated White Bear Lake, finishing in five innings. Melissa Johnson, Rachel Lanz, Ellie Blanchfield, Jacobs, Yourczek and Mickschl all had multi-hit games against the Bears. Junior pitcher Lauren Garay picked up her first win of the season in the game.

The Royals opened section play at home on Tuesday, May 20, in a game played after the Bulletin went to press.
