Woodbury man sentenced for sucker-punch at Cottage Grove party
A Woodbury man was ordered to spend five years on probation for sucker-punching and injuring a man who was lured to a Cottage Grove party after his ex-girlfriend sought revenge for their breakup.
Jacy C. Dow, 19, recently was sentenced in Washington County District Court after pleading guilty to felony third-degree assault in connection with an incident Nov. 5, 2001, at a home on Hinton Avenue in Cottage Grove.
According to court records, a woman brought her son to the Cottage Grove Police Department that day to report that he was assaulted. The man had recently broken up with his girlfriend, who told Dow she was angry and wanted the victim beat up. The victim said he was invited to a party on Hinton Avenue. Dow was there and tried to start a fight with the victim, who declined and turned to walk away. Court records say Dow then hit the victim in the head, knocking him to the ground, and then continued to punch him in the head.
The victim was helped up by others and brought home. He received treatment at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury for two eye socket fractures, a broken cheekbone, a broken nose and broken teeth, according to the criminal complaint.
Dow on Aug. 22 received a stay of imposition on a prison sentence but was ordered to complete five years of probation and spend 30 days in jail. Other sentence conditions included a chemical dependency evaluation and anger management assistance.
Court records do not identify the victim or his age.
