Woodbury High School to appear on '60 Minutes'

Woodbury High School will be making its television debut March 20 on CBS.

WHS will be featured on "60 Minutes" Sunday.

WHS English teacher Karen Morrill-Bryan will be the focus of segment due to an essay she published regarding the difficulties of teaching Mark Twain's classic novel "Huckleberry Finn" in today's society.

Morrill-Bryan cites the language found in the text, primarily the use of the N-word, as the reasons for the challenges.

Producers from "60 Minutes" contacted WHS about the essay and in February came to the school to film a segment.

The segment will feature Morrill-Bryan and other WHS staff as they explore the difficulties the text presents.

Morrill-Bryan's essay and the "60 Minutes" segment comes at time when an Alabama-based publisher is considering publishing the text with the controversial language removed.

Woodbury High School will be featured on "60 Minutes" March 20 at 6 p.m. on CBS.
