Woodbury girls track & field: Royals finish eighth at season-opening conference relays

The Woodbury girls track and field team opened the 2014 season by taking eighth place out of nine teams in the annual Suburban East Conference Relay meet last Tuesday at Roseville High School.

In the meet, which is run with all relays or by adding the top four athletes’ finishes together, Woodbury scored 60 points as a team. Mounds View won the meet with 145 points. Forest Lake (132) and White Bear Lake (130) were second and third, respectively.

Woodbury’s 4x100-meter relay team finished in second place with a time of 51.60 seconds and the Royals’ 4x200-meter relay team and 8x200 meter relay team each took fourth place.

Individually, Maria Versaguis finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.83 seconds and ninth in the 300-meter hurdles in 53.40. Taylor Raines placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 8.75 inches. Grace Rogers placed ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 33 feet, 2 inches. Allyson Rock was sixth in the shot put with a heave of 34 feet, 2.5 inches and sixth in the discus throw with a toss of 103 feet, 9 inches.

Weather permitting, Woodbury was set to compete in a five-team invitational on Tuesday, April 15, at Mounds View High School after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Royals are scheduled to compete in an invitational at Farmington High School on Thursday, April 17.
