Woodbury girls swimming & diving: Royals ready for section meet
The Woodbury girls swimming and diving team wrapped up its regular season Oct. 24 with a 96.5-76.5 victory over Forest Lake at Woodbury High School.
The Royals won seven events and the last three were exhibition events because Woodbury had secured the victory already.
The Royals went 1-2 in the 200-yard medley relay with the relay team of Sydney Swanson, Taylor Brooks, Meg Graupmann and Kristina Swanson winning the event in 2 minutes, 0.23 seconds. The team of Laura Parker, Ana Sortland, Lucia Rizzo and Lizzy LeBow finished in 2:00.62 to claim second place.
Sortland and Madi Wall went 1-2 in the 200 freestyle with Sortland winning in 2:06.36 and Wahl taking second in 2:12.35.
Linnea Rizzo and Leah Cody went 1-2 in the 200 individual medley with Rizzo winning in 2:22.09. Cody finished in 2:30.86 for second place.
Kristina Swanson won the 50 free in 26.62 and Lucia Rizzo tied for second in 27.02.
Meghan Miller and Rose Peterson claimed the top two spots in 1-meter diving with Miller earning a 187.8 for first place and Peterson claiming a 167.45 for second place.
Taylor Brooks won the 100 fly in 1:03.24, Sydney Swanson took second with a time of 1:05.83 and Natasha Vo took third in 1:08.43.
Woodbury went 1-2-3 in the 500 free with Lucia Rizzo winning the event in 5:25.35. Kelsey Wenzel took second in 5:52.89 and Laura Parker took third in 5:56.89.
Sortland will try for a return trip to the state meet Wednesday at the Section 3AA meet at Richfield Middle School in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sortland finished 12th at the state meet last season.
The Royals finished 17th last season at the state meet and graduated state entrants Mikayla Mayer, who competed in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, Lauren Puglisi, who finished sixth in diving,
Woodbury returns two legs of its 200-yard freestyle relay with Ana Sortland and Kristina Swanson, which finished 11th last year.
