Woodbury girls swimming & diving: Mustangs too much for Royals

Mounds View showed why it’s regarded as one of the top girls swimming and diving teams in the state in a 118-68 win over Woodbury on Thursday, Sept. 26, in Shoreview.

Mounds View won nine of 11 events in the meet.

For Woodbury, junior Ana Sortland won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 13.16 seconds. Sortland also touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.90.

Lucia Rizzo, an eighth grader, won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.23. Rizzo also placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.83) followed by senior Kristina Swanson, who was third (26.90).

Junior Linnea Rizzo placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.94) and freshman Taylor Brooks placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (56.38).

The Royals’ 200-yard medley relay team of Sydney Swanson, Sortland, Lucia Rizzo and Brooks took second (1:55.23).

Freshman Meghan Miller had Woodbury’s best finish in the diving competition, taking third with a score of 172.80. The Royals’ Rose Peterson was fourth (163.30) and Erin Brino took fifth (139.65). Kylie Kuether of Mounds View won the event (229.25) ahead of teammate Jackie Gaworski (186.75).

Next, Woodbury is at Roseville on Thursday, Oct. 3.
