Woodbury girls lacrosse: Royals top Hastings for second win
A season marked by competitive play by the Royals brought a Suburban East Conference win last week, along with a close non-conference loss.
Woodbury brings a 2-6 (1-5 SEC) record into its final push toward post-season play for the 2013 season.
The Royals started off the week by claiming a 13-4 home win May 7 over Hastings. Blair Fanning was Woodbury's leading runner against the Raiders, scoring six points, including two goals. Grace Wood collected four points buoyed by three goals for the Royals, while Taylor Kugler finished with three points against Hastings.
Woodbury goaltender Madison Lorenzo earned the win over the Raiders.
On Wednesday, May 8, the Royals found a tougher opponent in first-place Stillwater. The Royals dropped the home game 24-4. Nikita Gupta compiled half of Woodbury's goals, with Maya Schulte and Kugler chipping in the remaining goals.
Things were more competitive on Friday, May 10, against non-conference foe Rochester Century, who visited Woodbury and left with a 5-3 win. Stats from that game were not available.
Through last week, Fanning was Woodbury's leading point-scorer, with 27 (11) goals, followed by Schulte with 20 points off 16 goals. Kugler has 15 points (10 goals) on the season, Catherine Henning has 13 and Wood has 12 for the Royals.
The Royals have four game remaining on the schedule, which began with a road game on Monday, May 13, against White Bear Lake. Woodbury played host on Tuesday, May 14, to Rochester Mayo and closes out the week on the road against Cretin-Derham Hall.
The regular season finale will be Monday, May 20, at home against cross-town rival East Ridge.
