Woodbury girls basketball: Royals’ losing streak hits six
The Woodbury girls basketball team lost 68-59 to Minneapolis Southwest and fell 61-44 to No. 4-ranked White Bear Lake in the Suburban East Conference last week.
The losses were the fifth and sixth in a row for Woodbury, which is now 1-17 since Dec. 20, after starting the year 5-1.
Woodbury (6-18; 2-14 SEC) kept things close with White Bear Lake in the first half and found itself down only 29-21. But, the Bears (22-2; 14-2 SEC) pulled away in the second half for the 17-point win.
Woodbury freshman forward Cecile Kieger led the way for the youthful Royals with a team-high 12 points. Also, junior Kayla Bilski chipped in nine points and eighth grader Elizabeth Edinger had eight points.
Against Minneapolis Southwest, the Lakers (17-6; 8-1 Minneapolis City Conference) took a 36-31 first-half lead then held on for the nine-point win.
Bilski scored a team-high 13 points, Kieger scored 10 points and freshman Ellie Kriebich netted nine points for the Royals.
Woodbury takes on rival Park (17-6; 13-3 SEC) in Cottage Grove on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Next, the Royals close out the regular season at Stillwater (8-16; 4-12 SEC) on Friday.
