Woodbury cross country: Royals boys fifth, girls sixth at SEC meet; Wareham, Voit earn All-Conference nods
Junior Nick Wareham led the Woodbury boys cross-country team Friday at the Suburban East Conference cross country meet at Falcon Ridge in Stacy with a ninth-place finish on the 5-kilometer course and a time of 16 minutes, 14 seconds.
Senior Taylor Voit placed 11th with a time of 16:17 while freshman Joe Romain placed 35th overall in 17:18, senior Dan Buchmeier took 48th in 17:46 and senior Jeremy Storvick took 49th in 17:50.
Wareham and Voit earned All-Conference awards – which go to the top 20 overall finishers, with the next 10 being awarded All-Conference honorable mention.
As a team, the Woodbury boys earned fifth place with 152 total place points.
Stillwater won the meet with its top five runners taking the top five spots at the meet, totaling just 34 points. Mounds View placed three of its runners in the top 10 for second place (65 points).
The Woodbury girls cross-country team finished sixth Friday at the Suburban East Conference meet with 159 points.
Eighth-grader Haley Orf led the Royals with a 20th-place finish overall with a time of 15 minutes, 16 seconds on the 4-kilometer course.
Sophomore Katlyn Abelidinger finished 26th overall with a time of 15:33 while sophomore Kathleen Danielson finished 28th overall in 15:36, junior Julia Voss placed 39th overall in 16:01 and junior Catherine Henning placed 46th overall in 16:30.
East Ridge won the conference championship with 31 points and had six runners place in the top 13. Forest Lake placed second with 69 points and Roseville took third with 78 points. Woodbury finished behind Stillwater for sixth. The Ponies scored 135 points and White Bear Lake finished fourth with 100 points.
Next, Woodbury will compete in the Section 4AA race on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course. At sections, the top two teams and the top 10 individual runners in the boys and girls race earn trips to state.
Wareham was the lone runner from Woodbury to reach the state meet a year ago.
