Woodbury council asks two athletic associations to unify programs via new policy
Woodbury Minnesota 8420 City Centre Drive 55125

Woodbury City Council members adopted a new outdoor athletic policy that will require local associations to work together to get use of the fields.

Woodbury Athletic Association and East Ridge Athletic Association will have to create unified in-house programs for them to each earn third priority status.

The reason for the policy changes stems from years of trying to fairly accommodate use of the fields to all programs under each one of the associations that provide in-house programs, recreation supervisor Jodi Sauro said.

"There is quite a bit of competition amongst the two organizations," she added. "It also creates a difficult process for us when we allocate the fields because each of them wants their own identity."

City-sponsored programs get top priority, followed by schools and the athletic associations.

Any other outside or adult groups seeking use of the fields would have to fall under fourth and fifth priority.

The two athletic associations are now identified as "Priority III" but the policy states that if some of their programs request use of outdoor fields in the off-season, they would be charged a fee.

New policy guidelines also indicate that participation rates will determine who gets priority use of the fields -- if one association meets the requirements and the other doesn't, one will be bumped down to fourth priority.
