Woodbury resident Jack Lanners, president of FTL -- the company that operates MGM Wine & Spirits stores -- was named 2013's Citizen of the Year.

A chamber news release praises Lanners' leadership in the business community and his volunteer service to the community.

Minuteman Press, an Oakdale business, received the Business of the Year award. Chamber officials saluted Minuteman Press' "pay it forward philosophy" that includes working closely with nonprofits, schools and businesses.

The Educator of the Year Award was given to Lake MIddle School eighth-grade school counselor Robin Kazek. She was praisesd for going above and beyond at school "to create an all-encompassing guidance program" at LMS.

"She has reminded her school community that taking care of the students emotionally helps students experience success academically," according to the chamber.

A new award -- Nonprofit of the Year -- was given to the Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf of Woodbury. The chamber acknowledged Christian Cupboard's 30-plus years of service to the community and noted that it serves hundreds of people weekly.

The winners will be formally awarded at the chamber's Jan. 24 gala event, which includes a dinner and a silent auction.

In the coming weeks, look for full profiles on each award winner in the Woodbury Bulletin.
