Woodbury cagers split with Cretin
The Woodbury girls and boys basketball teams each played their first games of the season against Suburban East Conference rival Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday, with the results differing considerably between the two.
While the Royals girls were able to secure a battle of SEC undefeateds at White Bear Lake on Friday with a 45-35 victory versus the visiting Raiders in "The Lion's Den" at WHS, the Woodbury boys saw their losing streak hit five games following a 73-48 defeat on Cretin's home court in St. Paul.

Woodbury guard Michelle Young led all scorers with 13 points as the Royals girls held the Raiders at arm's length for the balance of 36 minutes in a 10-point win. Young's backcourt mate, Kristina White chipped in 11 points in the victory that improved the Royals SEC record to 6-0 on the year.
Unranked Woodbury, 9-2 on the year, heads to face fifth-ranked White Bear Lake for the outright lead in the conference on Friday night. The Bears are 12-2 on the season.
WHS Boys Hoop
Over in the Capitol City, sixth-ranked Cretin had little trouble with the visiting Woodbury boys in a 25-point victory. The Royals, who have not won since Dec. 18 agaisnt Park, never challenged the SEC co-leaders despite a game-high 23 points from forward Nick Quicksell.
Woodbury fell to 3-7 on the season with the setback and remained in an eighth-place tie with neighboring East Ridge in the SEC standings with a 1-3 conference mark. The Royals host White Bear Lake on Friday.
