The youthful Woodbury boys swimming and diving team crushed White Bear Lake in its second-to-last Suburban East Conference meet of the year.

The Royals sunk White Bear Lake 102-76 on Thursday, Jan. 31, at Woodbury High School, taking first place in every swimming event, first and second in three events and placed first, second and third in four events.

"The team has been training at a high level," Woodbury head coach Marty Hoven said. "We raced very well and we could see things that we have been working on in practice in their races."

Woodbury went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard individual medley relay. Freshmen Brady Bennett and Garret Norsten took first and second, respectively, with times of 2 minutes, 9.1 seconds and 2:09.65, respectively. Woodbury junior Eric Westfall was third in a time of 2:13.08. Woodbury was also first, second and third in the 100-yard butterfly. Senior David Khazanovich took first (58.38), junior Daniel Ehle (1:03.09) was second and freshman William Ho (1:03.76) took third. Woodbury claimed first, second and third in the 500-yard freestyle as well. Bennett (5:22.78) took first, freshman William Tostenson (5:25.50) earned second and eighth grader Calvin Sroga (5:33.36) placed third. Woodbury also went 1-2-3 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Ho touched the wall first in the event with a time of 1:03.34, followed by Norsten (1:08.97) and junior Eric Fong (1:13.26)

Woodbury seniors Nate Henning and Khazanovich earned first and second in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 23.77 and 24.09, respectively. Henning also won the 100-yard freestyle (54.29) and junior Eric Fleming took second (56.11). In addition, Westfall won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:00.23, followed by Kinzie, who had a time of 1:00.39.

In the relays, Woodbury's team of Henning, Ho, Tostenson and Bennett won the 200-yard free relay (1:38.98), while the team of Khazanovich, Fong, Kristopher Renning and Fleming took second (1:40.84). In the 400-yard free relay, Woodbury's Bennett, Kinzie, Westfall and Norsten combined to take first (3:38.25) while Henning, Fleming, Khazanovich and Tostenson took second (3:45.26). Also, Woodbury's team of Kinzie, Ho, Westfall and Norsten earned first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.51.

In addition, Woodbury freshman Ian Carr earned second in the diving competition with a 178.20.

Next, Woodbury takes on Roseville in Woodbury on Thursday, Feb. 7, in the regular-season finale. The meet is set for 6 p.m.
