Woodbury boys hockey: Royals win 5-3
The Royals improved to 9-6 on the season after a home win Tuesday over Irondale.
After falling behind 1-0 on a Knights goal 2:12 into the first period, Woodbury powered past Irondale, winning 5-3 at Bielenberg Sports Center.
The Royals utilized a balanced scoring attack in the game, with five different players finding the back of the net. Junior forward Chase Myers-Beck logged two points on a goal and an assist for the Royals. Nate Warham, a junior Woodbury defenseman, finished with two points on two assists.
The chippy game - which ended on a slugfest following an empty net goal by Woodbury with seven seconds left in the third - sent the Royals to the penalty box three times.
The Knights failed to convert on any of the three opportunities. Meanwhile, Woodbury was 1-for-1 on power play.
Junior Royals goalie Josh Erickson stopped 18 of 21 shots. Woodbury dominated shots on goal with 36.
Woodbury, which improved to 4-4 in Suburban East play, returns to the ice Saturday, when it plays host to Mounds View.
