"It's the first time I know of in at least five years the Park girls beat Woodbury in an event," Park and Woodbury coach James Kyes said. "And it actually came down to the fourth and fifth skiers. Alyssa Black and Kelly Miles overachieved what the Woodbury girls (did), so it was really neat to see those teams fighting it out."

Roseville won with 458 points and Stillwater was second with 438 as skiers competed in two races at Trollhaugen in Dresser, Wis., undertaking the classic race in the morning and the freestyle race in the afternoon.

And after finishing the morning race in sixth place, Park's Nicole Westphal maneuvered into fifth-place overall to lead the Wolfpack and to lock all-conference honors. Kelsey Gleich, who took 18th after the morning race, finished 12th overall and also earned all-conference.

"She wasn't happy with her morning race," Kyes said of Gleich, a returning state qualifier. "But the fact she's coming around and getting stronger, when she's (also) been working hard on so many other things, shows she hits the hammer and comes to the plate when she's called on."

Sarah Meemken and Alyssa Black, Park's third and fourth skiers, respectively, were key in completing the fifth-place finish, as the duo came in 27th and 29th overall, respectively, to earn all-conference honorable mention and to give the Wolfpack four top-30 finishes. Kelly Miles, who was in 50th after the morning race, finished in 48th.

Park's boys team came away with an eighth-place finish, earning 311 points as Forest Lake glided to victory with 480 points.

The Wolfpack was without surprise in its boys race, as veteran leader Joe Snyder took 12th place overall and earned all-conference honors.

"It was nice to see Joey Snyder stepping up," Kyes said. "He's been a strong skier for us, but he hadn't really gone to that next level of being a top elite skier. That was good for us."

Brent Lichtenberg came away with 50th place overall and Jason House was 51st.

The conference contest was the last breather before the postseason.

Park will make its case for state in the Section 1 tournament tomorrow, Feb. 7, in Apple Valley at 10 a.m.

Westphal and Gleich are the only returning state qualifiers on this year's squad.
