Woodbury firefighters were pushed to the limit Tuesday after enduring a stretch that their chief said was perhaps the busiest ever for the department.

Todd Johnson, Woodbury's fire chief and deputy public safety director, said the 17-hour span beginning late Monday and into Tuesday resulted in 27 calls for service. During that time, firefighters responded to calls related to a powerful storm that moved through the area.

"It was maybe our busiest ever" stretch, he said Thursday.

Johnson said all available firefighters were deployed "and used to the max" in response to calls including downed power lines caused by broken tree branches felled by high winds.

No other agencies were called in to help, but "it certainly taxes the system," he said.

No injuries were reported as a result of the storm, Johnson said.

The same storm, which hit Woodbury at about 4 a.m., waged heavier destruction in communities like Farmington, Lakeville and Hastings.
