Tropical Ballroom grand opening nears
A grand opening event is slated for Tropical Ballroom, a new Woodbury business, taking place July 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to midnight both days.
Featured during the two-day event will be free group dance classes, free private lessons, free dancing each evening until midnight, free giveaways, performances and food.
The theme for Friday, July 25 is "Country and Swing." Saturday, July 26 is "Ballroom and Latin" themed.
Owners James and Tricia Wood of Woodbury describe Tropical Ballroom as a Ballroom, Latin, Swing and Country dance studio.
It is located inside Valley Creek Mall, 1750 Weir Drive, situated between Ace Hardware and Keys Café.
According to Tricia Wood, the business is one of the only ballrooms in the mid-west that has a full competition-sized ballroom dance floor -- with no poles in the middle.
She also said Tropical Ballroom is the only ballroom in Minnesota to be cushioned with 5,200 rubber grommets under layers of plywood, topped with "100 percent real" three-quaterter-inch hickory hardwood flooring. Wood added most studios use engineered wood- part maple with laminate.
During regular operations, the ballroom will offer dance classes every day and open dances every weekend. It will be available for private rental, too.
Two youth ballroom sessions will be available starting in August for young people ages eight to 18.
