Traffic study to be done on Afton road
A traffic study will be performed on Trading Post Trail north of 50th Street in Afton to determine what action should be taken on a cable guardrail which has failed.
According to the city engineer, John Parotti, replacing the cable guardrail is not a viable option as the previous, failed cable provided insufficient protection to traffic.
MnDOT-recommended standards encourage Afton to install plate beam guardrail along the box culvert, although if vehicle counts were found to be less than 150 a day, the city could opt for a cheaper layout of the guardrail.
The cost range for the cheaper option is $4,000-$7,500 while the more expensive option would cost $7,000-$13,500.
Consequently, a traffic study will be performed in the area to see if it meets the criteria.
